30 Day Photography Challenge ~ Day 4: Hair Flip Photo

May I present.. The Hair Flip Photo.  Ha, I honestly don't know why they made you do this one, it's probably the most inconvenient way to capture movement. ...ahhh... wait I get it. Photography Challenge.  But still, I didn't like it. Timing it was quite difficult, and after multiple times of trying to keep my hand steady as I whip back my head, I resorted to the tripod with timer...  but then I could never time it right (which called for some hilarious faces).. So I ended up flipping my head the whole 10 seconds... and literally almost threw up (ha, I would last about .3 seconds in a mosh pit).  As I said, NOT my favorite.
But I do have to share the runner up and the just plain-out-embarrasing ones.  I got a kick out of them and I would do more if the nauseous feeling would go away.
Runner Up: I call it 'The Eye'
bald and The Hulk neck?
Yes... this all happened in my ducky pajamas.

30 Day Photography Challenge ~ Day 3: Nature/Outdoors Photo

So I went outside on a hunt for 'nature' photo.  I'm really not a landscape photographer, so this was a little tough.  All I saw was wet snow and the same old trees.  I was taking a few shots of a tree when I noticed this little drop... and then I got the tree in the drop.  I honestly had no idea this was what I was going to get with wet old snow.  Well, life is full of little surprises I guess :)

Happy Friday everyone!

30 Day Photography Challenge ~ Day 2: Black and White Photo

Ha so you would think with a black and white photo that this would be simple, right?  With me nothing is simple.  Instead I have to hang on to a piano for dear life to get an "artistic" shot.  It's things like this that I crack myself up over.. what was I thinking?  But hey, maybe Ankle-Breaking may also be Award-Winning! Or at least that what I tell myself when I do this stuff.

Oh, and *no piano was hurt in the making of this photo. Most of my weight was being held up as I held on for dear life.

30 Day Photo Challenge ~ Day 1: SOOC Photo

So "SOOC" is a really high-tech sounding acronym for straight-out-of-camera.  This just means there was no editing done to the photo, it was just uploaded as is. Not so crazy anymore, eh? But.. I have to admit.. I like to edit my photos. Just little touches here and there, yano? It's like saying not to wear make-up if you normally do, or not to wear a tie if that's your thing.
BUT this can make a photographer great. It's about getting it right the first time.  I do see impurities in this photo.. but I'm gonna strive to do better :)  Sheesh... I think all this "new years resolution" talk is starting to get to me!

As you may have noticed, I am taking on a photo challenge... which is unlike me cause I know how I follow through on stuff like this :P But, with a little determination (and maybe a little cheering, ey?) I will do this - one click at a time!

Please join me as I go through the 30 Day Photography Challenge <- there's the link if you'd like to give it a whirl!

AppleUmpkin Festival!

Let the fall festivities begin!  A few weeks ago I went to the AppleUmpkin and had some pretty legit Mother-Daughter time! :)  In the little town of Wyoming, NY (and trust me, little in an understatement) we enjoyed all the festivities including live music, checking out all the unique items for sale (Alpaca coat, really? For $400?!), and having my first fresh-squeezed lemonade! Enjoy the pics.. hope it puts you in the fall spirit!
No, no, not the Y2K, just a VERY small town

Uhh.. creepy.

Where tissue box holders and antique ornaments thrive...

I shot the sheriff... but I did not shoot no deputy!
everyone else was 50+

Ahh.. classic I-talian food...

Say thanks for the little things

As many of you may know, I went on a trip to Peru in the Summer of 2010 to dig wells for those without clean water.  Kind of something that's hard to totally wrap you're mind around... I mean I don't remember ever going to Wal-Mart and not getting everything I've needed.  Imagine going down to Lake Ontario with a bucket to get your water.. I have a feeling the U.S department of health would not be cool with that.
So obviously, their outlook on life was totally different.. and refreshing.  I loved spending time with all the kids in the villages for their joyous smiles were pretty contagious!  Things really didn't seem to be required for happiness.
So... as we near the time for turkey, football, and 3 am shopping, let's count our blessings, one by one :) even for something as little as the kitchen sink.
  Blessings! -Cathy

The Petrus Family!

Had a great time at Holley Falls Park with this wonderful family! Little Jack is such a character! :)
